North Somerset T4"s Discussion starter. Hi everyone I have just purchased a 2000 t4 with the 2.5 tdi engine I don’t like the way the van revs so I’m looking at doing a 1,9 tdi engine swap and wanted to know what I need to get to do the conversion. VW T4 2.5 tdi Timing Belts Replacement Timing belts are a serviceable item (60k or 4 years) and should be considered imperative in the up keep of your vehicle! failure of any of the timing belt, tensioner pulleys or water pump will in most cases lead to catastrophic engine damage. In the manual, it states that the pump timing must be set up after the cambelt change. If any of you have done this job, did you manage to do it without messing up your pump timing?. I've been quoted £128.80 for a cambelt kit from a VW main dealer. Can an equivalent kit be bought elsewhere at a more reasonable price?. Check where oil level is on dipstick & top up as necessary so it sits just below the top/max notch. Run engine for a few mins to let filter fill up properly, and allow oild to flow around engine then turn off & leave oil to settle back into sump for 10mins. Then re-check oil level at dipstick & top up as necessary.13. Oct 15, 2014. #1. My 2008 2.5 TDi California's engine has just seized on a trip back from Cornwall. The No 2 ports and cylinder seem to be completely mashed. It has done 64000mi and been dealer serviced most recently 2 months ago. They do not seem to have an explanation for this failure and are suggesting a new engine at £7300 plus VAT!.
2.5 tdi ajt pump timing. I've had this 2.5 tdi ajt since last august/september and it's always been a bit pants at starting, and when it does it smokes a lot. I figured out the pump timing was out, VCDS say too retarded. I went to adjust the timing with the pump tensioner / pulleys and I found that it had already been adjusted as far advanced
2002 T4 2.5 Tdi 75kw with auto box. I was cruising on the motorway when the engine suddenly died without any warking. Tried to start it but no joy, so had to get it towed home. Been doing the basic checks, but havn't found anything so far. Starter works and glow plug light comes on as normal
