The shade used for painting vehicles is defined by Federal Standard 595 in the United States. On February 17th, 2017, the Federal Standard system was superseded by AMS-STD-595 : Aerospace Material Specification Standard 595. This new standard is similar to FS in many regards and includes nearly all of its colors with identical numbers for convenience.
